Ph.D Written Aptitude Test (WAT)
The Written Aptitude Test is conducted for all the candidates who desire to apply for Ph.D. admission in the University Schools/Departments/Inter University Centres and approved Research Centres .( Except those who are exempted from appearing for the Written Aptitude Test.)
The mode of Written Aptitude Test for admission to Ph.D Programme ,2017 is as follows.

Maximum Marks                                                                  :                 100
PART -A

Objective Type Questions  (50 Nos.) Covering various areas of the subject                     :              50 Marks
(1 mark for each question)

PART -B

Short answer questions: 14 Numbers                           :              50  Marks

(Out of which 10 numbers  have to be answered, 5 marks for each question)
For assessing advanced knowledge in Research Methodology
Pass in entrance test is not a guarantee to admission for PhD programme, which will be subject to verification of the original certificates and fulfilling other eligibility criteria at the time of Doctoral interview.
Eligibility to apply
  • Candidates who have passed the Post-Graduate examination in any discipline of Mahatma Gandhi University or of other Universities recognised as eligible thereto, securing not less than 55% marks in the aggregate, are eligible to apply for the Written Aptitude Test.
  • For SC/ST/ OBC (Non Creamy layer)/ Differently abled Candidates / Candidates who obtained Masters degree prior to 19th September 1991, the minimum marks required for application is 50% in the aggregate in the Post Graduate Examination.
  • Candidates awaiting results of their PG Examinations can also apply, but they shall qualify the PG Degree on or before 31.07.2017.
  • All the candidates who desire to apply for Ph.D. admission in the University Schools/Departments/Inter University Centres and approved Research Centres except those who are exempted have to appear for the Written Aptitude Test.
Exemption from the Written Aptitude Test
  1. JRF awardees.
  2. UGC Teacher Fellows.
  3. M.Phil. & M.Tech. (all discipline), MD & MS (Modern Medicine, Homoeopathy and Ayurveda) Degree holders in the subject of research concerned.
  4. Regular and permanent teachers from the University Departments and the Government/Aided Colleges affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University.
  5. Candidates who have qualified in the NET/SLET/GATE/GPAT,JEST,RGNF or other tests conducted by such Government bodies as UGC,CSIR,ICAR/ICMR.
  6. DST Women Scientist Awardees.
  7. KSCST/INSPIRE/MANF Fellowship Awardees.
  8. Scientists from the Accredited R & D Institutions.
Fee for Application
Candidates have to remit Rs.1000/-(Rupees One Thousand Only) as applications fee. For SC/ST candidates, the fee for application is Rs. 500/-(Rupees Five Hundred Only). The mode of payment of the fee is Online only.
Photocopies of the documents to be submitted with the Printout of the application
  1. Self attested copies of the PG Degree/ Provisional Certificate and the P.G. Consolidated Mark list.
  2. Caste Certificate for SC/ST candidates.
  3. Candidates belonging to OBC (Non Creamy layer)/ Differently abled / and who obtained Masters degree prior to 19th September 1991, should submit the certificate showing the eligiblity
  4. Certificate from the Head of the Institution regarding the appearance of final P.G. Examination (for those awaiting P.G. Degree results)
  5. Eligibility Certificate for candidates of Universities other than Mahatma Gandhi University.
